A Walk in the Black Forest
This tune pops into my head from Time to time. The first time I heard it I was at the cinema waiting to see Mary Poppins back in 1965. I was almost 10 years old. The sun is always shining when I hear this tune!

Stary Olsa
I discovered this band thanks to Facebook. They are from Belarus and adapt rock songs in an amazing way. They perform traditional Belarusian music too. The man with the voice is Zmicier Sasnoŭski who founded the band in 1999. This is an adaptation of Deep Purple's 'Child in Time'.

Stan lights the way
We watched a TV programme last night about the plane that caught fire in 1983 killing Stan Rogers among the 22 others who died; So next time you’re in a plane pay attention when they point out that row of lights on the floor. Thank Stan for them.
So this morning I looked him up on YouTube. I chose Northwest Passage by chance. A truly wonderful voice was lost on 2nd June 1983.

Wave
One good thing about joining Facebook in your later years, is that you renew contact with friends from the past. Rob has been catching up with an old friend of his. He plays the saxaphone, something we knew about, but as the years have gone by, he's made a lot of progress. This is a clip of his!

Some bloggers come, some bloggers go and some come back again.
A few years ago there was a blog called Newtron News which I was interested in. An Englishman, who lives in Germany, taught English and also plays the guitar. He had a great lesson website too, which I sometimes used for my lessons. I bought his album from eBay when it was released. Then he disappeared, which was a pity. He turned up again on LinkedIn and has made a great video of one of his songs….

Born on Christmas Day
I heard this a while ago and decided that this would be my Christmas offering. Brad Paisley was only 12 or 13 when he wrote this song. Have a Happy Christmas.

I regret giving up the 'cello
I don't think that I would have been half as good as this:

Almost 20 years
It’s 19 years since Frank Zappa died. When I was clicking around on YouTube I came across this interview. Considering how ill he was at the time, he answered all of the questions with great patience. Well worth a watch.

The Wind
I was looking for a version of Cat Stevens singing this live, but I thought it too fast. I'm really pleased that I continued to look because I found this cover version, it's slow like I remember and I love the violin...

Time for a bit of George
I was listening to George Harrison this afternoon and decided I'd like to share Run of the Mill here. There was no sound on the first video I came across and then I found this accoustic version - much gentler.
Everyone has choice
When to and not to raise their voices
Its you that decides
Which way will you turn
While feeling that our loves not your concern
Its you that decides
No one around you
Will carry the blame for you
No one around you
Will love you today and throw it all away
Tomorrow when you rise
Another day for you to realize me
Or send me down again
As the days stand up on end
Youve got me wondering how I lost your friendship
But I see it in your eyes
Though Im beside you I cant carry the lame for you
I may decide to
Get out with your blessing
Where Ill carry on guessing
How high will you leap
Will you make enough for you to reap it?
Only you'll arrive
At your own made end
With no one but yourself to be offended
Its you that decides
George Harrison

Another list and some advice
1: The friendly receptionist at the doctor's (I arrived an hour early due to bus times and Rob's dental appointment and she fitted me in to a cancellation slot)
2: Christmas is coming!
3: Rob had an extra day off this week
4: That my stiff neck is almost better
5:Cheese on toast for lunch
I was cleaning the shower this morning when this song popped into my head. Good advice for everyone.

Up the Junction
Back to 1979 we go and a lot of memories. In 1973 I went on my first course in London. As I was underage I stayed at a retired bank employee’s house in Streatham with another girl from Barclays. To get to Teddington every morning, we had to change trains at Clapham Junction. We were both from the sticks and managed not to get too lost. Yesteday, I turned on Radio 4 to a program about how the song Up the Junction came to be written. It’s available to listen to for one week only. Here are the lyrics too.
Is the stuffed dog still on display there?

Wah Wah
Turn up the volume !! Get out the air guitar (or even a real one if you’ve got one)
George is still my favourite Beatle.
I had a lot of problems getting hold of the boxed set of the Concert for Bangladesh when it came out. A lot of shops didn’t stock it because there was no profit to be made from it – it all went to help the people who badly needed it. US$ 243,418.51 was raised.
Hands up if you’ve still got the boxed set

Gerry Rafferty 1947 - 2011
I was dozing off in bed last night and Rob was listening to the news on the radio. All of a sudden the familiar saxophone from Baker Street was playing. It could only mean one thing. I knew that he had health problems due to heavy drinking, but his death was still a shock. I expect a lot of us in the blogging world will be writing about him today. His songs were so romantic and beautiful.
In the early 80s I was driving through London with a boyfriend and as we turned into Baker Street, the song of the same name started playing on the radio – what a conincedence! Having said that I thought I’d post my very favourite; Home and Dry

I gotta find peace of mind
I bought myself a new parka in the sales at La Redoute last week. It’s really snug and warm, designed in Sweden (winks to Anna) with a faux fur piece on the hood. I went to collect it from the baby trading shop (not babies, but baby equipment). The lady in there was listening to some music on her laptop. It sounded really interesting so I asked her what it was. I didn’t understand who she said at first (she was saying the name a la Française). Anyway she showed me the name and was listening on Deezer so I knew I’d find it again.
Lauryn Hill. At first all I could find was rap, but I persevered and found what I wanted. Listen to this; bet you cry too. (though you’ve probably heard it all ready)
