Sarah Bernhardt's leg*

We were looking at the newspaper in a café a week or so back and discovered that Sarah Bernhardt’s leg had been found. Apparently the leg, which was amputated in 1915 had disappeared in 2000. It was found again in Bordeaux just before Christmas. I wrote about Sarah Bernhardt a year or so ago having spent an agreeable afternoon looking at a poster which featured her image. The poster fetched nearly £2000 because Sarah had ordered all copies to be destroyed because she had not given permission for her image to be used.

*Sarah Bernhardt’s Leg is also the title of a volume of poetry.

It could be either the first or the last line of a haiku, too: "Sarah Bernhardt's leg"... still thinking about it.

The Marquess of Anglesey had his leg smashed and amputated at Waterloo and its resting place became a bit of a tourist attraction. But ickier by far was the Duke of York, whose entrails are buried at a local church (Richard and I saw the monument when we were 'doing' the battlefields); they rendered down his body so that his bones could be sent to England

Who keeps a leg?? I don't care whose leg it is, that's bizarre... lol

If, God forbid, my leg is ever amputated, I'll make sure to ask them to destroy it. ;-)

Dru: I'm waiting for that haiku.

Donna: Truth is stranger than fiction...

Chandira: You have to be really famous for them to keep any bits of you, don't worry.
