Where the children go

I think that we can say that Dom has left home for good now. Even when she stops studying in the summer, she’ll be off to Chicago meeting other psychologists and then she’s going off to the UK so that everyone can meet J-M and see how wonderful he is…

A couple of weekends ago they came home for a visit and I heard her say that it seems like she lived here in another life. It got me thinking:

Our children exist. Every moment of their lives still exist. We as children exist somewhere. What happens as they grow up is that they are replaced by an older model. I can prove it. Babies , of course are replaced more rapidly, they have “growth spurts” when they are replaced. If you are a parent do you remember wondering where toys had got to when your children were growing? They took them with them. The replacement didn’t need those toys. Just think about the socks, t-shirts, jeans, pyjamas which suddenly vanished into thin air. Another example is homework – it explains a lot, doesn’t it? Have a think now. What about the beloved teddy bear or soft toy? Where is it? See what I mean.

Next time you hear a mother bemoaning that her son seems to have gown centimetres overnight you’ll know why: He’s been replaced by a bigger one.

Yes. Reminds me of the end of Winnie the Pooh, which still gets me, not least because Katie is growing up... "So they went off together. But wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the forest a little boy and his bear will always be playing"

A Lady's Life: I'm not sure what a red carpet is, but I'm sure you're not old enough to have grown up children.

Dru:All of those planets spinning around somewhere with past days happening on them...

Anji - I sure do. I have one graduating high school and one married and living in Australia.
The Australia one , is like I never had him because of how far he lives.
You give them birth, you spend years of sleepless nights worrying about them, following them, protecting them and then one day someone smarter shows up and takes them away. lol
So you either sit and cry or you find other things to keep your life going.Luckily for me I had another boy to keep me busy but now he is growing up as well.
One day its again just you and your romantic beau that's left. You have time for each other once more and that's a new exciting beginning in itself.:)

A red carpet is a school event when they have the students called out by name and they walk down a red carpet just like a movie star, to announce that they are part of the graduating class. After this they have picture taking and then they go out for a formal dinner and dance. Thee kids are all dressed in formal wear and you sit watching and remembering the little kids they once were suddenly all grown up before your eyes.
Its quite a tearful time. Then at 11pm they come home and change and go to another school where grads from 4 schools get together to party till 6 am. They have games and prizes. One of our schools girls won a car but she was not there to collect it, so they gave it to someone else.

A Ladys Life: Oh yes I'd have to take a box of Kleenex to a red carpet.

I've found that when they moved out I stopped worrying about them so much. Though my daughter has told me some of the things she got up to and I was glad I wasn't aware of it at the time.
